In the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River region, chlorotic Cinnamomum camphora has become more and more serious with urban landscape and greening benefits degraded in recent decades due to physiological disease of this important species. The physiological and biochemical properties of chlorotic C.camphora leaves from trees and soil, physical and chemical properties in typical planted areas of Shanghai(botanical gardens, leisure open spaces, and sides of highways) were studied in this research.Chlorophyll(Ch1) differences in chlorotic C.camphora leaves showed decreasing in Ch1 a (91.2%),Ch1b(95.1%),carotenoids(82.2%),the ratio of chlorophyll/carotenoid(58.5%), superoxide dismutase(SOD)(46.4%),and peroxidase(POD)(66.6%),compared to the health leaves. Also, the active iron content in yellow leaves was 50%-65%of health leaves, and the chlorophyll a/b ratio of the serious yellow leaves increased 98.7%,compared to the health leaves. The relative increase in carotenoid content could result in chlorotic C.camphora, whereas POD and SOD activity could indicate the degree of chlorosis.Chlorophyll(Ch1) differences in chlorotic C.camphora showed decreases in soil organic matter and hydrolyzed N,increases in soil pH value. There is little correlation between total iron in the soil and chlorophyll(Ch1) differences in chlorotic C.camphora, while chlorophyll(Ch1) differences in chlorotic C.camphora showed decreasing in active iron(51.4%) in the lower soil(30-60).Available P in the soil(0-30) increases 151%,164%in the severe chlorotic C.camphora.P/Te prominent increases(200%-300%)in the severe chlorotic C. camphora. The process of land formation in Shanghai,long-term impact of sea water, soil pH values, affecting the activity of iron in the soil, cause reduction of the active iron in the soil.In addition the soil is too barren, poor fertility, was one of an important reasons for chlorotic C.camphora.C. camphora absorb available P inhibit the absorption of active iron,so increase chlorotic C. camphora.
