The underlying surface situation is an important condition for the forming and the developing of erosion.Revealing the influence mechanism of it on the soil erosion and establishing truly feasible evaluation index system of underlying surface erosion-resistance are the foundation of the development for the quantitative analysis of the rule in soil erosion, the rapid calculate forecast for the amount of soil erosion and the harness methods against soil erosion. The introduction of GIS technology provides the powerful tool to the study of soil erosion, improves the informatization and automation level of soil and water conservation.Based on the theoretical analysis, the paper discusses the connotation and characteristics of underlying surface erosion-resistance evaluation of small watershed. The study adopted the indoor systematic analysis, field investigation and comprehensive evaluation of multiple factor to establish the evaluation index system of underlying surface erosion-resistance.Meanwhile, the research developed information system by introducing the technologies of component GIS and GeoDatabase, then it was applied to practice. The main progress of this paper is as follows:(1) The paper gives a comprehensive and detailed review the research on the soil erosion assessment, soil and water conservation information system and the application of spatial information technology in theses areas.(2)The evaluation index system of underlying surface erosion-resistance is established.It includes soil, vegetation, topography and geomorphology, Land Use and soil conservation measures. The five evaluation index can effectively reflect the difference of underlying surface erosion-resistance.The weight of each evaluation factor is determined by Delphi Method. Then Evaluation Models for erosion-resistance is used to calculate the total value of underlying surface evaluation.After that the result is classified automatically to get the erosion-resistance situation of factors for each evaluation unit in the region.(3)This thesis presents methods of extracting the value of underlying surface erosion-resistance evaluation index. The automatic calculation of each influence factor were implemented. Finally, the quantitative evaluation calculation of current underlying surface erosion-resistance was fulfilled.(4)The information system for underlying surface erosion-resistance evaluation is designed.The construction of database and the development of main function modules are also finished. Now, except for the basic GIS functions, this system can also realize the automatic extraction of underlying surface erosion-resistance index, and the fast quantitatively evaluate of the erosion-resistance and etc.(5) The paper proposes an application case of the information system for underlying surface erosion-resistance evaluation, which in Wangmaogou watershed, Suide County, Shanxi Province, also analyzes and predicts the erosion-resistance situation in this area. Especially, the research makes quantitative evaluation on the influence of human activityThe results of research have many prospects of application in both theory and practice. The evaluation index system of underlying surface erosion-resistance has high scientific meaning and high practicability. The information system is professional and practical, and the analysis of the system is dependable. And, it offered a technological support for soil and water conservation plan on part of Loess Platean.
