Artemisia ordosica Krasch. is one of the main vegetation in the Maowusu sandland. It plays an important role in sand fixation, but the growth in the fixed sand Artemisia ordosica obviously not as good as the growth than semi-fixed sandy and shifting sandy land, often signs of a recession. Preliminary think is that the coverage of Artemisia ordosica exacerbated the increase in consumption of soil moisture, at the same time surface and vegetation retain the atmosphere of smaller rainfall on soil moisture can not form an effective supply, soil water deficit is the main reason for this decline .In this study, the use of EC-5 soil moisture probe of the Maowusu sandland, to located observation 0~200cm soil moisture and infiltration of precipitation in different vegetation coverage of Artemisia ordosica, conducted a preliminary analysis and determined the physical properties of soil moisture , root distribution, rainfall characteristics for many years, discussed temporal distribution of soil moisture and precipitation changes of infiltration in different vegetation coverage, the results show that: there are unrelated at the difference between the type of sandy soil moisture and soil bulk density, field water-holding capacity, soil porosity; Artemisia ordosica root of the diameter class distribution of the increase with depth are reduced, whether the total amount of the distribution of the root or the root diameter class distribution has been concentrated in the 0~40cm, while the growth of the main Artemisia ordosica consumption of 0~40cm of soil moisture and a small amount of 40~100cm of soil moisture; With the coverage of Artemisia ordosica increased, either from the horizontal direction (seasonal changes),or in the vertical direction (vertical distribution), have aggravated the soil water deficit, and the formation of thick surface crust, the smaller the rainfall it is very difficult to root layer moist for Artemisia ordosica growth has created a bad environment, especially in low rainfall season, high coverage of Artemisia ordosica very harmful to growth.
