Precision forestry is a kind of modern forestry system in the area of forestry, it uses modern new science and technology to found integration, information, digital system. Technical core of precision forestry is to count and monitor forest growth, study spatial structure and differences of forest growth, and then use optimized theory and method of forest spatial structure to reduce and remove these differences. Precision forestry needs high-density, comprehensive forestry information as basis, the development of GPS can get fortestry information, at the same time get location information of this place. Based on strong resources of GPS, precision forestry which is hot areas of reseach and application of forestry science today gets the unprecedented rapid development.Research of the paper is in the context of appliction of precision forestry. the paper introduces present situation of GPS. Combining application situation of forestry in our country now, the paper proposes a design of felling and transporting system for lumber based on GPS-OEM board. The GPS—OEM board is used as receiver of location information of lumber felling, the board has small volume, low price, good performance and simple development. Single-chip AT89C51 is the center of control unit, and necessary peripheral circuit is proposed, location information of felling system is shown by LCD display. The system is applied on skidding tractor to record location information of forest, when the forest is felled, at the same time torque sensor measures torque value to give approximative quality of every tree.The system enhances accuracy and real-time of measurement results, improves work efficiency of worker. Workers can more learn timber number, growth situation of forest and affect of timber growth because of soil in various regional, and apply reseanable measures to reduce and remove the differences, high and stable products is gotten, which has practical value to realize sustainable management of forest and regional sustainble development.
