Study On Effect Of Ground Covering On Soil Quality Under Cotinus Coggygria

Based on surveys and soil properties measurements of a Cotinus Coggygria Plantation in the west mountain,Beijing,the soil hydrothermal-conditions,soil organic matter,soil nutrients and soil enzyme activity were studied,the main results are as follows:(1) The gross lenth of aboveground and belowground biomass significantly increased by ground covering in the Cotinus Coggygria Plantation.(2) Ground covering vegetation can balance the soil temperature,when thesoil water content was relatively lower,it can help reduce the loss,and when the soil water content was relatively high(for example on July and August when the precipitation is enough),it can help preventing excessive water from getting into the soil,leading to the low water content.It can also help decreasing the soil temperature,preventing the soil evaporation as well as benefiting microbe activities,affected both on soil water content and soil nutrient.(3) The soil pH in the Cotinus coggygria plantation appears week acidity and there's no obvious difference under vegetation land covering and no vegetation.Comparing with the control(no no vegetation covering),the soil organic matter content was increased in the uplayer(0-5cm),while decreased in the 5-20 cm soil profiles.The soil total nitrogen increased significantly under different vegetation covering,and the available phosphoous raised,while the available polassium decreased significantly.(4) The main influence on soil enzyme activities under different plants showed:The soil catalase activity and soil urease activity under vegetation land covering have not obviously difference than those under control.The soil glucosidase activity in the layer of 0-5cm increases by over 120%,while in the layer of 5-20cm,soil glucosidase activity is influenced to show the decreasing tendency.The soil alkaline phosphate activity and soil acid phosphatase activity have no obvious relations with different plants covering,fundamentally in accordance with the contents of the available phosphoous.In gerneral,different vegetation covering in the Cotinus coggygria plantation can promote the growth of plants,ameliorate hydrothermal-conditions of the soil,improve soil nutrient condition,adjust soil enzyme activity and beautify forest-landscape.Hence,surface plants' growing is an effective managing measurement for Beijing Western Mountain Cotinus coggygria plantation.
