The volatile organic compounds in the root, stem and leaves of Artemisia ordosica and Artemisia sphaerocephala were analysed by purge and trap gas chromatography/mass spectrometry(PTI-GC/MS) in the research. The results showed that the main volatile compouds of the plants comprised terpenoid, monoterpenoids and sesquiterpene of which were much higher in content. The volatile organic compouds in two species of plants were largely identical but with minor differences. The main mutual volatile compounds in different parts of two species of plants were:R-(+)-α-piene,β-piene,Myecrene,α-phellandrene,β-phellandrene,Limonene,Caryophyllene.The content of monoterpenoids in the leaves were much higher than stems and roots, but the content of sesquiterpene were much higher in stems and roots than in the leaves. The relative content ofα-piene,β-piene,Limonene in the leaves and stems are higher than in the roots. But the relative content ofβ-Caryophyllene,Longipinene,Patchoulene,α-Caryophyllene in the roots are much higher than in the leaves and stems.Based on an analytical PTI-GC/MS method, eleven volatile compounds of leaves of Artemisia ordosica were analyzed. That were R-(+)-α-piene,Mycene,S-(-)-β-piene,(+)limonene,α-phellandrene, Trans-s Ocimene,S-(+)-2-Canene,Elemene,Humulene,Caryophyllene.Eleven main volatile compounds of leaves and stems of Artemisia ordosica were screened out by quantitative analysis with unitary area method. The beetle response to these compounds are tested with Electroantennogram(EAG).By using the mehod of Duncan's multiple compared analysis, the result showed eight volatile compounds such as Ocimene,R-(+)-α-piene,Caryophyllene,S-(+)-2-Canene,Humulene,(+)Limonene,α-Caryophyllene and Campene elicited strong EAG response by female Adosomus sp..Myrcene and Ocimen elicited strongest EAG response in them.Four volatile compounds such asβ-piene,Myrcene,Ocimene and Longipinene elicited strong EAG response to male Adosomus sp..Myrcene elicited strongest EAG response by the female. With Y-shape Olfactory Detector, the results showed that Adosomus sp.showed strong attract behavior on eight volatiel compounds.Area normalization was used to determine relative percentage content of the compounds.Based on the relative percentage content of the compounds, the volatile compounds were mix liganded in special propotion.Field biological determination showed that volatile compoundsC,and compounds A,E mixed in 3:1,compounds A,J mixed in 5:1,compounds B,C mixed in 1:1,compounds B,C,H mixed in 10:10:3,compounds B,E,F mixed in 5:3:1,compounds B,E,J mixed in 1:1:1, compounds D,G,J mixed in 3:1:1 have obvious effect on Adosomus sp.(p<0.05).The volatile compounds A,compounds A,B mixed in 1:1,compounds B,D mixed 1:2,compounds I,J mixed in 3:1,B,D,I mixed in 3:6:1 have obvious effect on Sphenoptera sp.Compounds B,compounds B,E mixed in 7:2,compounds D,E mixed in 6:1 have obvious effect on Holcocerus artemisia. The First discovery of plant attractant of Protexarnis confinis.
