Since its introduction into Fujian province, Spartina alterniflora has rapidly expanded and invaded, which caused serious damage to the structure and function of the tidal ecosystem. During 2007 and 2008 a survey on the distribution of S. alterniflora and a field experiment were conducted to search effective measures for controlling this invasive plant. The treatments that were studied were mowing, flooding and covering the plants. The major results are summarized as follows:1. Distribution and damage of S. alterniflora in FujianAcross the Fujian province, S. alterniflora was widely distributed。From the results, S. alterniflora had caused severely damage in Xiapu, Fuan, Jiaocheng, Luoyuan, Lianjiang, Quanzhou and Jinjiang. There was also a slight damage in Fuzhou, Fuding, Putian, Nanan, Xiamen, Longhai, Zhangpu and Yunxiao. There did not find the S. alterniflora in Changle, Fuqing, Zhaoan and Dongshan.2. The physical control of S. alternifloraThe optimal treated measure of controlling S. alterniflora is a key factor.The mowing experiment results show: the density, height and aboveground biomass between the treatment was existed significantly difference (P<0.05). Underground treatment significantly inhibited the density, height, fruiting number, fruiting rate and fruiting length compared to the other control , and had a good control effectives. The flooding experiment results show: the density, height, aboveground biomas between the treatment was existed significantly difference (P<0.05). The fruiting number, fruiting rate and fruiting length compared to the other control was not existed significantly difference between flooding 10 d and CK (P>0.05), but was existed significanily difference (P<0.05) between flooding 40d, 50d, 60d and CK. The more treat time, the high effective; The covering experiment results show: the mortality rate between the treatment was existed significantly difference (P<0.05), going with more treated time, the mortality rate was increasing, the mortality rate of covering white membrane and black membrane both got 100% in 7 and 8 weeks3. Screening of herbicides for optimal control on S. alternifloraThe high effctives herbicides of controlling invasives species is a key factor to succeed in removing the invaders The experiment results show: the control effectives got 100% after using MCK 2 months in spring, the glyphosate and other hebercide have no effectives.4. From above, Spartina alterniflora has invaded much mudflat which serious influence the local ecnomical and life,. It is necessary to take into account of treat measure when using mowing to control Spartina alterniflora; It is also necessary to take into account of covreing matrial when using covering to control Spartina alterniflora; MCK has a good control effectives, it is worth of expanding and applying.
