In order to research the impact of soil fauna on the litter decomposition and the difference of litter decomposition along elevation, we applied two methods to exclude the functions of different kinds of soil fauna along an elevation gradient in Wuyi Mountain. The results indicate that:1. The numbers and adversities of soil fauna of bags with 5mm>bags with 0.1mm dealt with the naphthalene and without naphthalene. Compare to the soil numbers in bags with 5mm mesh, the exclusion of soil fauna in bags with 1mm came to 37% in the four different plant communities.2. All in four different plant communities, the number and diversity of soil fauna in bags with the same kind mesh dealt without naphthalene are more than those dealt with naphthalene. Contrast to the treatment without naphthalene, the annual average exclusion of soil fauna with naphthalene was above 22.44%.3. The order of the decomposion rates with the three kinds of mesh size(5mm, 1mm, 0.1mm) and different treatment along elevation all was: EBF>CF>DF>AM. Decomposion rate was decreased along an elevation gradient.4 The order of the mean annual of the relative density of individuals and groups of bags with 5mm size without naphthalene along elevation was: EBF>CF>DF>AM,The relative density of individuals and groups were decreased along an elevation gradient.5. The annual average of contribution rate of the macro-meso soil fauna of bags with 5mm mesh without naphthalene in EBF was 24.13%, and it was 1.46, 2.28 and 6.05 times the value of that of CF, DF and AM, respectively, and it was significantly higher than that of CF, DF and AM. The annual average of contribution rate of the macro-meso soil fauna was decreased along an elevation gradient.6. Litter mass rate exhibited a negatively significant crrelation with the relative density of individuals and groups and diversity of soil fauna at different elevation gradients.
