14 parents of three-line indica hybrid rice(Oryza sativa L.), including 3 cytoplasm male sterile(CMS) lines and 11 restorers,were used to research the heredity of the combining ability and heritability for agronomic traits and quality traits of rice by the way of incomplete diallele cross(NCII) design.The analysis for agronomic traits showed that both the general combining ability(GCA) and the specific combining ability(SCA) were significant or highly significant in most of traits.The plant height(PH), the growing period(GP),the panicles of per plant(PP),the spiketets of per panicle(SP),the seed setting rate(SSR) and so on were mainly controlled by the non-additive effect.All traits were greatly influenced by the CMS lines than the restorer lines.Based on GCA and SCA of the parents,Zhenshan 97 A was the most ideal in CMS lines,and R80 was the most ideal in restorer lines.Since the GCA and SCA were independent each other,it is essential to make broad testcrosses in selection of hybrid combinations.The narrow-sense heritability(h_N~2) of the traits were ranged as follows:1000-grain weight(GWP)>panicle length(PL)>PP>grain weight of per plant(GWP)>Yield in theory (YT)>PH>SP>GP>SSR.The analysis for quality traits showed that both the GCA and the SCA were significant or highly significant in most of traits.The head rice rate(HR),the chalky degree(CD),the amylase content(AC),the gel consistency(GC) and so on were mainly controlled by the non-additive effect.Most of traits were greatly influenced by CMS lines than restorer lines.Based on GCA and SCA of the parents,Xingcheng A was better than other CMS lines,and Minghui 77 was better than other restorer lines.Since the GCA and SCA were independent each other,it is essential to make broad testcrosses in selection of hybrid combinations. The correlation of all quality traits was complicated,to get a hybrid with high HR and low CD,selecting high length/width ratio directly could be a way.Xingcheng A is more excellent than Jin 23 A.Hybrids combined by Xingcheng A were characterized by a prominent low chalky degree,and most of these hybrids'CD could reach 3 grade or more high-quality paddy standards.
