Chlorfenapyr, a product developed by American Cynamid Company, derived from dioxapyrrolomycin which metabolized from a Streptomyces fumanus strain, is a novel arylpyrrole insecticide and acaricide with high activity and broad spectrum. Chlorfenapyr is widely used to kill vegetable pests in China and especially plays an outstanding role in killing the pests such as Plutella maculipennis, Spodoptera litura and Laphygma exigua with high effective and impressive efficiency. The course of discovering and developing of chlorfenapyr is typical. It serves us a good way to design new pesticides. We designed and synthesized five series of novel dioxapyrrolomycin derivatives, and three series of novel arylpyrrole derivatives. The structures of new compounds were confirmed by IR, 1HNMR, 13CNMR, MS, elemental analysis and X-ray diflfraction.Their insecticidal and acaricidial activities were evaluated. Most of them exhibited good insecticidal and acaricidial activities; some of them exhibited excellent insecticidal and acaricidial activities. Surprisingly, one novel serie of them showed high activities comparable to chlorfenapyr.
