Strawberry is one of the main fruit in China, but it can not resist drought or flood because its roots are shallow and its large quantity of leaf reborn quickly, so the irrigation requirements for strawberry are strict. There are both sufficient soil water to maintain soil moisture and sufficient air to maintain good air permeability of soil. So, there is an important significance for researching different irrigation methods on strawberry yield, physiological and metabolic effects of water. The experiments were targeted at strawberry cultivation in viscous soil at Changfeng County of Hefei, and used the protected methods of culture tests. The paper preliminarily studied the effects of three different irrigation patterns, (furrow irrigation, drip irrigation and half-substrate drip irrigation), on growth, fruit yield, quality, and water metabolism of strawberry. By comparing the effects of different irrigation methods to find the suitable irrigation methods which could improve yield and quality of strawberry. We looked forward to providing reference datas for strawberry irrigation technology to improve yield and quality of strawberry. At the same time, the soil of Changfeng County is sticky, we used half-substrate of strawberry cultivation, and expected to provide experimental basis to improve soil of viscosity and find out the suitable irrigation technical parameters. The main conclusions are following:(1) The half-substrate+drip irrigation was the appropriate irrigation methods for viscosity soil, this approach was conducive to improve the quantity and quality of strawberry. The quantity and quality of strawberry under half-substrate+drip irrigation and drip irrigation were higher than furrow irrigation, the yield in per plant increased 36.89% and 29.30%, the average weight of fruit increased 13.69% and 11.57%, Vc content increased 47.57% and 30.47%, anthocyanin content increased 82.17% and 47.73%.(2) Photosynthetic rate (Pn)of Strawberry leaf under half-substrate+drip irrigation and drip irrigation were always higher than furrow irrigation throughout the whole growth process, photosynthetic rate under three irrigation methods were maximum in the flowering stage, Photosynthetic rate under half-substrate+drip irrigation method was higher than drip irrigation methods and furrow irrigation method, the photosynthetic rate under half-substrate+drip irrigation method was 63.38% higher than furrow irrigation method and 57.29% higher than drip irrigation method. Under half-substrate+drip and drip irrigation methods, the average growth rate, root cap ratio, leaf dry weight ratio, leaf fresh weight and other growth indicators were superior to furrow irrigation method.(3) under half-substrate+drip irrigation method and drip irrigation, the total and freedom water content of strawberry leaf were higher than furrow irrigation, the bound water content and the water potential were lower than furrow irrigation.(4) under half-substrate+drip irrigation method and drip irrigation, the root length, the root number, root fresh weight, the root volume, the root bleeding and the root activity of strawberry were superior to furrow irrigation. The root length, root fresh weight, the root volume, the root activity and the root bleeding under half-substrate+drip irrigation method were 34.5%, 117.2%, 164.2%, 70.9% and 88.8% higher than furrow irrigation method, and the root length, root fresh weight, the root volume, the root activity and the root bleeding under the drip irrigation method were 38.8%, 84.1%, 47.8%, 48.4% and 74.1% higher than furrow irrigation method.
