Studies On Potted Soilless Media Of Herb Peony

Herb peony (Paeonia lactiflora Pall.) is a traditional flower in China. It is also one of the important cutting flowers in international market. Cultivated mainly in soil-based has greatly limited the industrialization and high-quality production of Herb peony. In this paper, preliminary selected herb peony varieties in field was potted in green house based on the thought of environment protection and energy conservation. Study on different turf-containing medium and renewable alternative to turf medias, preliminary selection of suitable medias for most varieties of Herb peony had been done and devised complementary fertilization methods. The aim of this paper is to provide techniques for the soil-less cultivation of Herb peony. The results are as follows:1 Culture with suitable media in greenhouse can produce the same results of field cultivation, using turf as the main component in the cultivation media:turf:vermiculite:perlite=3:1:1(60% turf concentration) shown better adaptability, successfully cultivating several varieties of Herb peony.2 Reduction of turf and turf alternatives matrix renewable media culture experiment showed that reducing the media of turf or turf substitute medium will also be given good cultivation effects, suitable for initial screening of the peony flower growing new medias.'Da Fu gui'and'Dong Fang hong'selecte turf content reduced to 50%,40% that turf as the main component of the media respectively.'Da Fu gui' can be growing and blooming in cottonseed hull:vermiculite:perlite=4:3:3, peanut shell:vermiculite= 4:1, peanut shell:vermiculite:perlite=5:3:2. perlite.3 Culture media turf:vermiculite:perlite=3:1:1 fertilization studies show that application of fertilizer and chicken manure both are good for growing and blooming of herb peony, but application of fertilizer is conducive to herb peony blooming, application of chicken manure is useful for root growing and accumulation of dry matter.4 Renewable agricultural waste matrix fertilization studies show that cottonseed hull:vermiculite: perlite=4:3:3, peanut shell:vermiculite:perlite=5:3:2 in the application of compound fertilizer concentration of 1.8g/L,0.9g/L,0.5g/L, and peanut shell:vermiculite=4:1 in the application of compound fertilizer concentration of 1.8g/L were better to growth and blooming. Fertilization at 1L/pot was done at the period of pre-germination, stem growth, leaf expansion, budding, pre-flowering, after the flowering would be sufficient for herb peony's growth and flower..The research is the first time to use of renewable agricultural waste cottonseed hull, peanut shell as the main medias for herb peony cultivation, and better culture effect than the cultivation of turf based media, It is able to reduce the cost with the same flowering quality. Therefore, renewable agricultural waste medias for the replacement of turf based media for herb peony culture is feasible and broad prospects.
