Iris lactea Pall. var. Chinensis is a kind plant of wide-spread distribution. It possess the resistant features of cold,drought and salinization,but the dormancy of Iris lactea Pall.var.Chinensis seed is the biggest obstacle on its development and utilization.Therefore,the article studies form and structure of Iris lactea Pall.var.Chinensis seed,length of the embryo,the anatomy of Iris lactea Pall.var.Chinensis seed,the permeable of seed coat and identifies the germination-restraining substances in different parts of seed;in addition, researches the sprouting characteristics of the seeds treated by sand milling,warm water,cold stratification,sour and alkali.In order to investigate the reasons of the dormancy of Iris lactea Pall.var.Chinensis seed and look for the method that can improve the germination rate of the seed.The result of study shows that:①The seed's shape of Iris lactea Pall. var. Chinensis is not rules,the skin of the seed is dark brown,the albumen is abundant and embryois small.②The skin of the seed will not influence on the speed of water absorbing of the seed.③The seed of Iris lactea Pall. var. Chinensis possess after-ripening characteristics in its form and structure is one of the reason that why it possess dormancy.④There are not a few inhibition in the water extract of Iris lactea Pall. var. Chinensis seed coat and endosperm.⑤The germination rate of the Iris lactea Pall. var. Chinensis seed are at their best at temperature of 25centigrade degree.⑥To compare the effect of dormancy-breaking of Iris lactea Pall. var. Chinensis seed treated in sand milling,warm water,cold stratification shows that they are at their best treated in cold stratification.⑦To compare the effect of dormancy-breaking of Iris lactea Pall. var. Chinensis seed treated in acid,alkali shows that they are at their best treated in 40%NaOH for 8 hours.
