There are large areas low-quality forest with low canopy density, low productivity because of over-harvesting operations and natural disasters. In order to restoring the original forest structure and function, improving the quality of forest stands, it is necessary to transform low-quality forest. The transformation of low-quality forest could use different logging styles generally, each of logging styles have different influence on forest environment. We study each of cutting methods on soil fertility, soil carbon emissions and water holding capacity of litter, there are great significance for scientific operating on low-quality forest through screening for the reconstruction mode of forest ecosystem restoration. At the experimental area improvement of Low-quality in Ma Yongshun Forest Farm of XiaoXing'An Mountains, taking soil physical and chemical properties, soil respiration and the litterof XiaoXing'An Mountains in the forest stands after logging as the criterion, discussing the impact of soil and litter of different logging styles in order to selecting the reasonable logging styles from the point of soil physical and chemical properties, soil carbon release and water-holding characteristic of litter layer. Results showed that:(1) For the soil physical and chemical properties, in Forest Gap, soil physical and chemical properties have the largest variation, followed by the Vertical Clear-cutting Zone and the Selective-cutting Zone, the least variation was noticed in the Horizontal Clear-cutting Zone. The appropritate cutting methods were selected based on the impacts on soil physical and chemical properties. The Horizontal Clear-cutting Zone is the best, followed by the Selective-cutting Zone at 31% and 41% of cutting intensity, thirdly is the Forest Gap with a big area, at last is the Vertical Clear-cutting Zone.(2)For the soil respiration, there are non-significance difference in soil respiration of the different band width at the Horizontal Clear-cutting Zone and the Vertical Clear-cutting Zone. For the Forest Gap, the maximum was appeared at the area of 300 m2.The annual release of soil respiration is 1.184,1.426, and 1.179 Kg CO2m-2·yr-1 in Horizontal Zone, Vertical Zone and Forest Gap, respectively.Soil respiration had certain fluctuant for the Selective-cutting Zone at different cutting intensity, cutting intensity and soil carbon fluxes have a negative correlation, the relationship between the two is suit to the hyperbola.(3)For the litter, the litter amount and the maximum water-holding capacity of the nondecomposed litter are greater than the semi-decomposed litter in the Horizontal Clear-cutting Zone and the Vertical Clear-cutting Zone, but the litter amount and the maximum water-holding capacity of different band width have non-significance difference. The litter amount and the maximum water-holding capacity is large in the Selective-cutting Zone at lower cutting intensity. Logging operations have a greater disturbance on the litter water-holding properties, but the Vertical Clear-cutting and the low cutting intensity can effectively reduce the impact of logging for hydrological function of litter. The results above provide a scientific reference for impact of logging on function of soil and litter and low-quality forest management.
