Global warming is becoming international environmental problem and has attracted much attention from many ecologists and environmentalist. As a domination proportion of the land ecosystem, the study of forest ecosystem play an important role in the study of the global changes. Forest biomass is a basic quantity character of the forest ecological system. Biomass data are foundation of researching many forestry and ecology problems. It is important to research the forest biomass for the carbon cycle and the carbon dynamic changes. Based on the data of forest inventory of Jiangsu Province in 2000 and 2003, the forest biomass and the net primary productivity (NPP) are estimated by the method of biomass expansion factor(BEF) which is derived from the relationship between biomass and volume. The spatial patterns of forest biomass and the net primary productivity of Jiangsu Province are also analyzed. The results are as follows:(1) The total forest biomass and the net primary productivity of Jiangsu Province appear to rise in flunction. The total forest biomass of Jinagsu Province is 67832259.27 t, 86331874.01 t in 2000 and 2005,respectively.( 2) The biomass and the NPPof forest stands per hectare appear to decrease in fluntion. The average biomass of forest stands is 53.20 t·hm-2 and 41.18 t·hm-2。in 2000 and 2005 ,respectively. The NPP of forest stands per hectare is 10.55 t·hm-2.a-1 and 9.90 t·hm-2.a-1 in 2000 and 2005,respectively. The average biomass and NPP of forest stands decrease by an average of 4.52% and 1.23% respectively. It is shown that Morans` I of the forest biomass of Jinagsu Province is 0.2647.Based on the forest management data of Xinpu County in 2009, the forest biomass is estimated using the biomass expansion factors function method of various forest types. The total forest biomass of Xinpu County is 365299.04 tof which 314739.76 t for stands , 6014.25 t for economic forest, 210.76 t for bamboo forest ,28290.9080 t for scrub forest.Remote sensing techonology provide a very quick way to known the estimation of forest biomass.Yet there are many factors affecting the process such as remote sensing data, the selection of variables and models.Among these factors, remote sensing data and independent variable selection are regarded as the key factors .This paper analyses the correlations between the forest biomass and CBERS-02B data taking Xinpu County of Jiangsu province as an example. It is shown that CBERS-02B is correlated with stands age. The correlation between the biomass of the broad leaf forest and RVI is significant at the 0.05 level and reaches 0.46428, the correlation between the biomass of the broad leaf forest and NDVI is significant at the 0.05 level and reaches 0.379627. The highest correlation between the biomass of the broad leaf forest and NDVI* is also significant.
