Objective To study the effects of aluminum chloride on content of monoamine neurotransmitter in different brain regions of rats and explore the cause of the neurous toxicity of aluminum chloride. Methods: 144 of Wistar rats were divided into three experimentical ( A-high Al, B-middle Al, C-low Al) and one control groups. Experimentical groups exposed to aluminum by intraperitoneal injection with aluminum chloride in 25mg/kg/d ,15mg/kg/d and 5mg/kg/d respectively. The control group (D) intraperitoneal injection with N.S. Rats were executed in 4,8 and 12 weeks respectively, Different brain regions were taken to mensurate the content of monoamine neurotransmitter(include NE DA 5-HT 5-HIAA). Results : By One-Way ANOVA analysis: (1)DA levels in different regions and time(4,8,12weeks) is less than control group significantly. (2)in different time, 5-HT levels in high-Al group (25mg/kg/d)and middle Al group (15mg/kg/d) in cerebral is different significantly;5-HT levels in other brain regions in different groups is less than control group significantly. (3)5-HIAA levels is less than control group in every of experimentical groups in 12 weeks ,and the same in high Al and middle Al groups in 4 weeks and 8 weeks(P<0.05).The other groups is different significantly than control group.(4) NE levels is less than control group in different brain region, exposed time and experimentical groups significantly. Conclusion: The results showed that AlCl3 led to changes of monoamine neurotransmitter levels in different brain regions, which may play an important role in neurous toxicity of aluminum.
