objective Examine lower extremity blood vessels in diabetes foot(DF) with Color Doppler, evaluate the suitable amputation level in diabetes foot. Method All around physical inspection and Color Doppler exploration were done in 36 patients with serious diabetes foot (all were above Wegner HI grade), the completely occluded arteria level was definite in the affected extremity. After the blood sugar was controled to normal, the A group of 10 cases were amputated in the level 10 cm far away from the arteria completely occluded level; the B group of 20 patients were amputated in the level less than 10 cm away from the arteria completely occluded level; the C group of 13 cases were amputated in the level above the arteria completely occluded level. Drainage-tube, antibiotics, insulin were routine used after the amputation and more, dressing change was took everyday. The wound healing conditionwas carefully observed. Results The primary incision healing rate of the A group was 10%(1/10 cases), the secondary healing rate was 40% (4/10cases), the reamputation rate was 50%(5/10cases); the primary incision healing rate in the B group (20 cases, including 5 reamputation cases)was 65%(13/20 cases) , the secondary healing rate was 25%(5/20 cases), the reamputation rate was 10%(2/20 cases); the incision primary healing rate in the C group (13 cases, including 2 reamputation cases)was 77% (10/13 cases), the secondary healing rate was 15%(2/13 cases), the reamputation rate was 8% (1/13 cases)o Using x 2 check, we found there were significant difference between group A and B or group A and C (PO.01); and more, there is also significant difference between group B and C (P<0.05) . Results The colour Doppler is a useful tool help us to decide the amputation level in. In the amputation of diabetes foot, the amputation level above the arteria completely occluded level is safely and economical; the amputation level less than 10 cm away from the arteria completely occluded level is also relative safely; the amputation level more than 10 cm away from the arteria completely occluded level is dangerous. And more, thedefinition of amputation level in diabetes foot should take the patients' total condition, local skin blood supply, soft tissue edema ,infection and so on into consideration.
