The incidence of mental disorder is rising in recent years, while medicine facility can't meet the needs of our society. Lack of specificity makes it difficult to diagnose for clinicians. The screen scales used in psychiatry not only can provide useful information but also set an objective standard in treating patients with medications. The using of scale at psychiatric department is of great value. To evaluate its efficiency, translate and modify the inventory and then use it in suspected outpatients. First let the patients rate themselves and then compare the scores with the final diagnoses. Using the Youden's Index to determine the best cut-off score. Then to evaluation the 29-item Inventory in diagnosis. In the second stage of our research, first give further modification to the 29-item inventory, direct the suspected patients to fill in the scale andSCL-90, determine the best cut-off score based on the Youden's Index andcompare the scores of the inventory with the final clinical diagnoses, then know about its criterion-related validation and paravalidity with SCL-90.-4-Using test-retest method to determine its reliability. The main results are as follows:First, 136 suspected outpatients finished the inventory according to direction. The 29-item Inventory was found to have satisfactory sensitivity and specificity. It can provide useful clue for further clinical diagnosis, especially in schizophrenia. When the best cut-off score is 2. The sensitivity andspecificity are 81%^ 73% respectively, criterion-related validation is 75%.But when applied to screen depression, the specificity is too low (only 18%) .The test-retest of the scale is 93%.Second, the further-modified Inventory was found to have higher specificity in screening depressions and also have more satisfactory accuracyboth in screening schizophrenia and depression. Their results are 85%> 71% respectively. When the best cut-off scores are 3^ 8.5 and their paravaliditywith SCL-90 are 73%, 65%.The screen inventory has many values such as brief, usefulness, low-cost. It can make it possible to shorten the diagnosis period and lower the mistake diagnostic rate. All these can economize our medical expenses.
