Clinical Relevance And Levels Of Serum Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor In Acute Leukemia

Objetive We measured serum vascular endothelial growth factor levels in acute leukemia samples and correlated these levels with disease characteristics and prognoses. Search for the clinical relevance of VEGF about acute 1 eukemia.Study designing The 52 blood of acute leukemia were collected from the department of pediatrics and hematology of The Affliated Hospital of Medical College Qingdao University and Qingdao Municipal Hospital. The cases were divided into two groups :(1)untreated group(n=211include acute lymphoid leukemia ALL(n=10)and acute nonlymphocytic leukemia ANLL (n=ll). (2)complete remission group (n=31).Methods The serum VEGF levels were measured by Enzyme linked Immunoassay (ELISA). Comparisons between two groups were used by t test and x2 test. The relationshipbetween VEGF and complete remission duration, age, sex, WBC, HB, blast counts, infiltration of CNS, bone tenderness, or degree of splenomegaly by regression analysis and statistical analysis system SAS.RGSllltS The concentrations of VEGF were significantly higher in untreated group than complete remission group and normalgroup. (t'=3. 291 p<0.01; t'=3. 488 p<0. 01, respectively) The concentrations of VEGF were higher in cord blood than normal group. There was no different between ALL and ANLL, (t=0.551 p>0.01). High levels of VEGF increase high death rat (x2=9. 751 p<0.01). Patients of ALL who have high levels VEGF need long time to reach complete remission(r=0. 9349 p<0.01). For the untreated group of patients, no correlation was found between VEGF levels and age, sex, Hb, Wbc, blast counts, infiltration of CNS, bone tenderness or degree of splenomegaly.Conclusion The levels of VEGF in untreated group were significantly higher than complete remission group and normal group. High levels of VEGF increase high death rat. Patients of ALL who have high levels VEGF need long time to reach complete remission.
