Objective To observe the changes of NGF expression in visual cortex (VC) and Pattern Visual Evoked Potential (P-VEP) before and after occlusion of the non-deviated eye in strabismus amblyopic cats, and to investigate the relation between NGF and plasticity of visual system. Methods Eighteen normal kittens (about 4 week sold ) were divided into three groups randomly <, Twelve kittens which were operated with mycetomy the external rectus muscle of right eyes in 4 weeks age were divided into two groups, six of them were perfused in 12 weeks age, Another six kittens(treated groups)were occluded after 4 weeks and perfused in 12 weeks age. The Other six kittens (control groups)were perfused in 12 weeks age. P-VEP was recorded every 4 weeks. Results The number density (ND) of NGF-immunoreactive cells in normal kittens was higher than in strabismus and occluded kittens at same age. VEP record show that the amplitude of wave P t was high but its latent time was shorter in normal kittens than strabismus and occluded kittens at the same age. Occluding the non-deviated eye can improve the number density(ND) of NGF-immunoractive cells and change amplitude and latent time of VEP o Conclusion NGF expression in 17 area of VC decreased in strabismus amblyopic cats and improved after occlusion of the non-deviated eyes In cortical period of visual development . Maybe NGF has important role in manipulate the plasticity of visual system,,...
