The Effect Pf Diet Of Ruditapes Philippinarum On Atherosclerosis Of Rabbit

Objective To evaluate the effect of diet of Ruditapes Philippinarum on atherosclerosis modle of rabbits.Methods The New Zealand White rabbits(n=80) were fed with standard diet or hyperlipid diet for 14 weeks,or after being fed hyperlipid diet for 6 weeks then left for a 8- week washout period,with or without a daily supplement of diet of Ruditapes Philippinarum. The concentration of serum total cholesterol(TC),low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high- density lipoprotein cholesteroK HDL-C) and LDL-C/HDL-C were measured every 2 weeks and intima-media thickness ratio (I/M) were measured at the end of 6th and 14th week.Results The results showed that the model of atherosclerosis was well established and the fatty streaks were found after 6 weeks of hyperlipid diet feeding. The fatty streaks were more extensive at the end of the washout period,as demonstrated by gross changes in the aorta. During the washout period ,the concentration of serum HDL-C of group B decreased more slowly than group C, the I/M of group B and C grow even higher. At the end of 14th week, the I/M of group D rose more greatly than the 6th week (P<0. 05).Conclusion These data indicate that the administration of diet of Ruditapes Philippinarum during a washout period,after hyperlipid diet feeding, has the potential to slow the decrease of serum HDL-C concentration.
