In this article we studied the damage effect of the seizureon the rats' hippocampal neurons and the constant change of the nitric oxide , superoxide dismustase in hippocampus after seizure induced by bemegeride . Then we studied the relationship between them.We made an animal mode of epilepsy by bemegride 25mg/kg ip, after the rats began seizure 5 minutes, 30 minutes, and 6 hours , 12 hours, 24 hours after bemegride was intraperitonealed, we capitated the rats and took out the cortex and hippocampus. The cortex and half of the hippocampus was put into -70癈 refrigerator. The other half hippocampus was fixated in 10% formaldehyde. NO and SOD was measured, by the classic histopathological method we calculated the left normal neurons and by TUNEL dyed positive apoptosis ones we got the apoptotic results. Conclusion:(1)We found that the neurons degenerated and necrosed after seizure, the peak time was at 6 hours group. In 30 minutes group the mainly change was hydropic degeneration, but it also showed the necrose of the neurons. The apoptosis neurons increased at 6 hours group and 24 hours group reached the maxiasm, exactly contrary was the left normal neurons. The pyramidal cells and granular cells but mainly the former was involved. (2)The nitric oxide increased greatly in 5 minutes group, moderate high in 30 minutes group in hippocampus, but not in the cortical cerebral and in 6 hours group and 12 hours group ;the SOD was lowest in 5 minutes group, and was still lower in 30 minutes group and 6 hours group, it became normal in 12 hours, 24 hours ones. We drew the conclusion that the neuronal damage induced by seizure in hippocampus had some relationship with the nitric oxide and free radical produced during the status epilepticus.Postgraduate: Gao Chunlin (pediatric neurology) Directed by: associate professor Wu Meiqian...
