Natural competence in Streptococcus pneumoniae is regulated by a competence mechanism comsisting of a competence-stimulating kinase receptor(comD) and a response regulator(comE). the competence is suggested that it can induce the virulence of Streptococcus pneumoniae.Subject Find if the experiments in vitro can induce the competence of S.pn and explore whether competence plays a role in virulence.Methode Competence is induced in the S.pn detached from clinic and creat the come duplicaion mutants by insertion-duplication.Use the real-time RT-PCR to test the expressing level of vurilence between the mutants andthe wild type.Result Competence can be induced in vitro and the expressing level of three virulence, LytA, NanA, Hyl, are higher in wild type than in the come mutant.Conclusion Competence can accelerat the expression of virulence in S.pn,so it must be an important factor in causing disease of S.pn.
