Objective: To study common rules of representation of cervical forepart degenerative changes in x-ray and to probe into the role of intervertebral instability in cervical spondylosis. Methods: The dynamic cervical radiographs were taken in volunteers without symptoms and patients of cervical spondylosis. The two groups were compared with each other by the data of the cervical spine curvature and configuration, the range of flexion-extension and the horizontal and angular displacement. Results: There was significant difference (P<0.01) between two groups about the horizontal backward displacement and difference (P<0. 05) about the range of flexion-extension. Both are correlated with age and occupation, and not correlated with height and gender. Conclusions: Cervical instability is the main characteristic of the representation of cervical forepart degenerative changes. There are three main representation in cervical forepart degenerative changes, namely the appearance of the horizontal displacement, the reduction of the range of flexion-extension and the change of the cervical spine curvature and configuration.
