In this article we analyze the mechanism of yin deficiency causing heat according to the theory qi classified into yin and yang as well as concerned tissues, so we think that regarding yin deficiency causing heat as blood deficiency causing heat or body fluid deficiency causing heat is incorrect, also we analyze the mistake and its causes. By doing this, we could give a sound theory of yin deficiency causing heat according to the interactions between yin-qi and yang-qi, for clinical treatment, and promote this theory as well as its application in clinical treatment. The fundamental issues in TCM are the concept of qi, essence in ancient Chinese philosophy and that in TCM, and the relation between qi and essence. The ancient theory of qi and essence integrated as one has effect on the formation of TCM theory. The primary resource and element meaning of qi in ancient philosophy are conferred different meaning in TCM. Based on the revised qi and essence, there is the physiological pattern of human body ?essence is the primary and basic material of human body with qi as the material to regulate and control the physiological function, an the relation between qi and essence manifesting as inter-independence and inter-promotion.The theory qi classified into yin and yang ?a fundamental should be preserved and developed?is based on the combination of ancient materialism and dialectics, which means that there are yin-qi and yang-qi two parts composing qi and the harmonized interaction between the two parts promote the development of the universe. This theory qi classified into yin and yang applied in TCM indicate the course of qi' regulating function besides qi being the foundation of qi's regulating function ?the harmonization betweenyin and yang is the basis for life activity, while the imbalance between yin and yang causing disease. However, through TCM literature analysis, we concluded that qi classified into yin and yang theory was not given the deserved application in the explanation of yin deficiency causing heat mechanism, instead, there is too many explanation based on opinion of blood deficiency causing heat or body fluid deficiency causing heat. According to qi classified into yin and yang, the actual meaning of blood deficiency causing heat and body fluid deficiency causing heat is the yin deficiency causing relative yang excess and leading to heat. The mistake is confusing the essence of broad meaning in TCM with yin-qi, so there is an confusion between the meaning of yin and yang, furthermore, leading to the confusion of the interrelation between essence and qi resembling the relationship between yin and yang. The profound cause for this mistake may lie in the concept of respecting yang and despising yin, which emphasizes the importance of yang-qi and neglect yin-qi. Also under the influence of protecting essence, blood, and body fluid, the concept of yin equals the concept of essence of broad meaning, leading to some TCM therapists think that the interaction between essence and yang-qi is the basis of the fever disease rather than interaction between yin and yang.Qi classified into yin and yang is the basis for the analysis of yin deficiency causing heat, which should be regarded as the guiding principle for the clinical treatment, experimental animal model besides theory research.
