Objectives: To determine the outcomes for carotid endarterectomy (CEA) in the treatment of patients with high grade stenotic lesions of extracranial internal carotid artery. Methods: Nine patients underwent Ten CEAs between Novermber 2001 and april 2003 .In 5 men and 4 women aged on average 66 years, 6 recerved CEA for stroke, 4 for TIA, and 1 for asymptomatic disease. Doppler scan was given before operation. Perioperative DSA and MRI were done for 2 and 1 patients, respectively. Of the 10 lesion operated on, 3 showed a stenosis of 70% or great, and 4 ranged from 60% to 69%. CEA was performed nuder cervical block anaesthesia with selective introperative stenting and patch angioplasty. Results there was no mortality and 1 stroke during operation.,cranial nerve Injury in 1 patients. Conclusion: CEA is associated with an acceptable perioperative outcomes as well as a satisfactory beneficial effect in stroke prevention.
