Objectives: To investigate the effects of unilateral unripe testicular on blood flow and histology of contralateral testis. Methods: Fourteen 3 weeks old Wistar rats were studied. The rats were assigned randomly to 4 groups. The group 1 was control. The group 2 underwent 720 degrees torsion of the left testis. The group 3 underwent 720 degrees torsion of the left testis for 6 hours and untwisted after. The group 4 underwent 720 degrees torsion of the testis for 6 hours, after which they were orchidecomied. Data were collected at baseline, 2 hours, 12 hours, 24 hours, 72 hours and 1 week of torsion. Tesicular blood flow was detected by Colour Doppler Ultrasonography. The right orchidectomy was preformed on the 9 weeks old rats and pathological changes were evaluated. Results: The value of peak systolic velocity of contrlateral testis increased significant after the torsion of one side premature testicle (P<0.01) and reached the peak value at 2 hours after the opertion. After 2 hours, the value of peak systolic velocity of contrlateral testis decreased gradually. The value of peak systolic velocity of contrlateral testicle increased significantly too after untwised and orchidectomy (P<0.01). The value of peak systolic velocity, end diastolic velocity and resistive index increased singicantly too. Among thefour groups, The value in the group of orchidectomy increased mostly (P<0.01). The early pathological changes in contrlateral testicle appeared the dilatation of vessels, edema and congestion mainly. Six weeks after torsion, the weights of contralateral testis increased in the torsion group and orchidectomy group (P<0.01). Howevr, seminiferous tubular diameters (STD), testicular biopsy score (TBS) and cell amount spermatogenic epithelium (CMSE) showed no significant differences in any of the study groups compared with the contral group (P>0.05).Conclusions: The blood flow of contrlateral testis increased significantly after the torsion of one side of premature testis. The blood flow of contrlateral testis increased significantly too after the untwised and orchidectomy of the testis. The early pathological changes in contrlateral testicle appeared the dilatation of vessels, edema and congestion mainly. Six weeks after torsion, contralateral testis appeared compensatory testicular adaptation in the torsion group and orchidectomy group, no histology changes were noted on the contralateral testis...
