| Objective To observe the efficacy of anti-atrial fibrillation pacemaker in the treatment of paroxysmal atrial fibrillation(PAf), to investigate methodology of Af preventive pacing. Methods 19 cases in therapy group were implanted Vitatron900E or ST.JudeAFX DR5346 anti-atrial fibrillation pacemaker according to conventional methods, and developly optimize pacing system accompanying by other therapies such as drug therapy and so on accordingly during follow-up ,and observed changes of such indexes as clinical situation and Af burden and score of quality of life (QOL) and complications and so on,and compared with 21 PAf patients who were implanted conventional DDD pacemaker in controlled group. Results During averaged 11 months follow-up in therapy group all kinds of indexes improved by certain degree as well as those in controlled group. There were no severe complications happened relevant to pacing therapy, and clinical symptoms improved in 16 cases and 15 cases between two groups, respectively. Af burden decreasing attained to 58.57% (P<0.05)in 900E patients in therapy group. Score of QOL increasing attained to 63.11%(P<0.05)and 78.89%(P<0.05),and significant effective rate was 47.4% and 14.3%(P<0.05),and effective rate was 73.7% and 23.8%(P<0.05)bet\veen two groups, respectively. Conclusions Anti-atrial fibrillation pacemaker in the treatment of PAf is superior than drug therapy alone and conventional DDD pacing. Anti-atrial fibrillation pacing posses such virtue as sustained effect and convenience and safety and so on. Anti-atrial fibrillation pacing may be important complementation of drug therapy to certain drug-refractory PAf patients. It would be more benifical to patients that abide by such principles that strictly hold indications and persist on "patchwork therapy" and developly optimize pacing system and so on. |
