Object To study the effects of Psycho-social Factors on Patients with chronic eczema. Method We used a control study for the 30 patients with chronic eczema, 31 patients with neuroses, 34 the normal. The patients suffering from chronic eczema were examined using Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory(MMPI), Symptom Checklist-90(Scl-90), Life Event Scale(LEs), Social Support Scale(SS) and Defenses Style Questionnaire(DSQ). The Patient with neuroses were examined using Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory and Symptom Checklist-90. Results Compared with the normal, Patients with eczema had statistically significantly higher scores in scale Hs. D. Hy. of MMPI, higher scores in scale Somatization, Anxiety, Depression, Psychotic factors, Additional items, Total scores, General symptomatic Index and Positive symptom distress level of SCL-90, higher scores in scale negative life event and Total life event of LES, higher scores in scale Total social support and Subject social support of SS, higher scores in scale Immature defense style of DSQ. Compared with patients with neuroses, Patients with eczema had statistically significantly lower scores in scale F. Hs. D. Pd. Mf. Pa. Pt. Sc. ofMMPI, lower scores in scale Somatization, Obsessive-Compulsive, Interpersonal sensitivity, Anxiety, Hostility, Photic anxiety, Paranoid ideation, Psychoticism, Additional items, Total score, General Symptomatic Index, General positive symptomatic index of Scl-90. The results showed Patient with chronic eczema had personality and mental health disturbance, but that is less than patients with neuroses. Conclusion Personality traits, mental health state, Life event, social support and defenses style are important factors associated with chronic eczema.This study may be useful to explore etiology, treatment and progress of eczema.
