Objective: The aim of this research is to investigate the morbidity of perinatal infants rickets and subclinical rickets and correlative factors in the perinatal period in Kunming, to find out incidence, pathogeny and correlative factors of congenital rickets in this regions. It will give a theoretical basis for prevention and treatment of the rickets. Methods: 103 full term newborns and 30 parturients were entered into our research, 30 parturients and their newborns were paired a group. Blood was collected for every subject to measure the serum 25(OH)D3, phosphorus concentration and bone alkaline phosphatase(BALP) activity. At meantime, we investigated other information according to the tables had been designed. Results: In Kunming , the morbidity of perinatal infants rickets is about 19.4%,the morbidity of subclinical rickets is about 48.6%. Either calcium or vitamin D ,or both of them is deficiency. Calcium deficiency is predominant. In mother-baby paired group, the serum 25(OH)D3 of mothers are higher than that of babies. Both of their the serum 25(OH)D3and BALP are apparently positive correlation (respectively r=0.818 and r=0.877). The serum phosphorus concentration of maternal are lower than that of newborns. But they are irrelative. In maltifactors relative analysis, we found pregnant maternal factors are major factors that lead to congenital rickets and subclinical congenital rickets, especially symptom of hypocalcium, gestational supplementation of calcium and vitamin D, the number of pregnancy, workenvironment and the time of sunshine exposure. The relevant factors for infants are the changes of sternum, body weight and high. In newborn infants factors that the change of sternum, body weight and high are relevant. Conclusions: In Kunming, the morbidity of perinatal infants rickets and subclinical rickets is higher; In most of pregnant mothers calcium is deficient. A few of them vitamin D is deficient; Among the factors that cause congenital rickets, It is significantly relevant that are symptom of hypocalcium, gestational supplementation of calcium and vitamin D and the change of sternum to the morbidity of congenital rickets; During gestation, especially the period from the 28th wk of gestation to the 7th day of life, what mothers use preventive medical care effectively contributes to reducing the morbidity of congenital rickets. In order to reduce the morbidity of congenital rickets, the best way is that vitamin D and calcium should been supplemented timely and appropriately to the mother and the newbones who suffering from subclinic rickets.
