Objective: To study the effects of Xiaoxintong Capsule on the hemorheology of experimental rats with blood stasis, on ECG and hemo-dynamics of rats with acute myocardial ischemia so as to understand its mechanism. Methods: The modeling of rats with blood stasis was made by subcutaneous injection of adrenaline and ice-stimulation to observe the hemorheology of rats in each group. The modeling of rats with acute myocardial ischemia was made by injecting pituitrin through the sublingual vein to observe the changes of ECG (II), Segment ST and Wave T at different time phases. The modeling of rabbits with acute myocardial ischemia was made by tying up the coronary blood vessels to observe the changes of LVSP in each group. Result: Xiaoxintong capsule greatly improved the whole blood viscosity (high-shear, middle-shear, low-shear) and enhanced the distortion of red blood cells. Its therapeutic effect was close to that of acetylsalicylic acid. Xiaoxintong capsule could greatly improve ECG Segment ST and Wave T's elevation value of the ischemia (p<0.05) and the time for Segment ST and Wave T's elevation was found to be shortened (p<0.05). It showed obvious significance for Wave T.High dose Xiaoxintong group had almost the same therapeutic effect as Di ao xin xue Kang, particularly in improving LVSP, LVEOP, +dp/dt max, -dp/dt max). Conclusion: The pathological mechanism of myocardial ischemia is the obstruction of the hemorheology and the abnormality of the heart's hemo-dynamics. Xiaoxintong capsule has a preventive effect on both of them. And its mechanism is related to that of the drugs for regulating the flow of vital energy & invigorating the blood circulation which can improve the heart's hemo- dynamics and the hemorheology so as to protect the myocardium.
