Objective: To study the expression of androgen receptor(AR) and epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR) in human adenoma of the posterior urethra. Materials and Methods: The immunohistochemical method was usdedto investigate the expression of AR and EGFR in 40 cases of posterior urethral adenoma and 18 cases of normal posterior urethral mucosa. Stastical analysis was performed by the Mann-Whitney 2 independent samples test and the spearman rank correlation. Result: The postive expression of AR in the posterior urethral adenoma was significantly higher than which in the normal posterior urethral mucosa(P<0.001). The postive expression of EGFR in the posterior urethral adenoma was significantly higher than which in the normal posterior urethral mucosa(P<0.001). A positive correlation was found between the expression of AR and EGFR in the posterior urethral adenoma. The coeffecient of spearman was 0.470(P<0.01). Conclusion: Adenoma of the posterior urethra may be an androgen-dependent benign neoplasm. The pathogenisis and progression of it may be closely associated with androgen and the overexpession of AR and EGFR.
