Malaria remains one of the most important diseases of man in terms pf both mortality and morbidity, especially the developing of drug-resistance of malaria parasites rapidly. Artemisinin and it derivates are particulary effective, since they act rapidly and well tolerated and highly effective. Clinically relevant artemisinin resistance has not been demonstrated, but it likely to occur since artemisinin resistance has been obtained in laboratory models. The research interest in artemisinin resistance is rising now. This article explored the different of gene expression between artemisinin-resistant strain of Plasmodium berghei K173 ( P. berghei RQ) and the drug-sensitive strain, P. berghei K173, using the suppression subtractive hybridization (SSH). Taking the RQ as tester, K173 as driver and reversely, we constructed the subtracted cDNA libraries related to artemisinin resistance. Further, we screened the libraries using reverse Northern dot blot, find several different clone, sequencing and bioinformatics analysis showed some of them are unknown gene, the role of them in the mechanism of resistance is needed further studies.
