Objectives To determine the condition and factors related to HIV transmission in community clinics.Methods The study was conducted by interviewing the doctors in depth , observating the operation of health service and sterilization instruments, inquiring of doctors knowledge about HIV/AIDS and sterilization in the community clinics , a district of a city. At the same time, specimen were collected from the community clinics.Results Of all the community clinics, private clinics without licence is 72.28%. On average the clinics possesse 16.57 m2 room and 1.20 health care workers . 38.61% clinics have heat sterilization and 40.59% clinics have ultraviolet lamp . The doctors have inadequate knowledge of disinfection, sterilization, occupational protection and HIV/AIDS. The correct rate of skin disinfection for patients, handling of disposable syringes and dealing with accidental puncture wounds are 42.57%, 29.29% and 37.62% respectively. The qualified rate of glass syringes, disposable syringes, sterile medical cotton or gauze, alcoholic concentration and sterile preservation solution are 72.22%, 95.96%, 48.51%, 40.43% and 75.71%.Conclusions There are a lot of risk factors related to HIV transmission in the community clinics. Strengthening hygienic supervision and surveillance will be important to control and reduce risk factors .
