The Related Factor With Treatment And Recurrence Of Bone Giant Cell Tumor

1. BackgroundBone giant cell tumor can been frequently seen in bone tumors, which is latent malignant and may recur easily. Maybe the related factor of recurrence is versatile, including surgical grade, surgical types, relative therapeutic tools, as well as the behavior of tumor, such as pathology gene expression, tumor position, initial or recurrent cases, and so on .So we should consider meticulously in order to decrease the recurrence of the tumor and reach a better result.2. ObjectiveTo analysis all kinds of results after surgical therapy with bone giant cell tumor retrospectively, to show whether different surgical types may lead to different outcomes. Thus, we can clarification the relative factor of recurrence, and provide a better method for the treatment of giant cell tumor of bone.3. Methods163 patients with bone giant cell tumor underwent surgical treatment from 1981.1 ~ 2001.1, including intra-lesion operation in 103 cases, tumor cells were killed with liquid nitrogen freezing in 51 cases, with electrotome and hydroxybenzene in 52 cases, transplant within bone cava or bone cement filling in 44 cases, an bloc resection of bone with allograft or total joint replacement in 60 cases. All cases were followed up for more than 2 years, to investigate whether tumor recurrence relating with clinical phenotypes , tumor chapter and surgical types.4. Results12 cases recurrence were observed, including 7 cases having intra-lesion operation, 5 cases having an bloc resection. With statistical analysis, we observe that the clinical phenotypes, tumor chapter and surgical types are not related factors of the recurrence of bone giant cell tumor.5. ConclusionIntra-lesion operation with methods to kill tumor cell can decrease tumor recurrence rate, the clinical phenotypes, tumor chapter and surgical types are not intimate related factors of the recurrence of giant cell tumor of bone.
