| Objective To investigate the incidence of temporomandibular disorders in young soldiers and to study the therapeutic efficacy of various methods for temporomandibular disorders.Methods A sample of 1117 young soldiers ,who were 18~23 years old, were study. The subjects were investigated by questionnaire and examination. The entries of questioning included: (l)if they had bad-habit or not. (2)if they felt pain when opening the mouth. (3)if they open mouth abnormally. (4)if they open their mouth with snap or not. The entries of examination included (1)the occlusional state. (2) if they open mouth abnormally. (3)if they open their mouth with snap or not. Diagnosis criteria: those who suffered one of three symptoms were diagnosed as TMD, the prevalence was calculated. 204 patiens were divided into 3 groups randomly, they were treated by physicotherapy and regional injection of drug or complex method. To compare the therapeutic efficacy of various methods.Result The incidence of TMD in young soldiers was 6.09%. This disease is associated with some factors such as bruxism, bite teeth tightly, bite hard objects, bite laterally, open the mouth too big, teeth missing, anterior teeth crossbice while had no relationship with denture. The effective rate of block is 72.73%,physiotherapy is 68.18% and complex method is 95.83%.Conclusion The prevalence of TMD among young soldiers was low. That is to say, those who had bad habits and abnormal occlusion had higher prevalence of TMD than normal population. The therapeutic efficacy of complex methods(block and physiotherapy) for temporomandibular disorders is effectual and obvious. |
