| Background: Bronchial asthma is an inflammatory disease of the airways that is associatedwith airway hyperresponsiveness and remodeling. Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor(VEGF) is one of the potent angiogenic cytokine that induces airway inflammation andremodeling in asthma. VEGF also induce inflammatory cell accumulation, extracellularmatrix deposition, airway smooth muscle hyperplasia or hypertrophy and airway fibrosis.Object: To research the effect of doxycycline on the VEGF expression in animal model ofbronchial asthma. Methods: Expression and activity of VEGF was identified by cell counting, Westernblotting, H-E stain, immunohistochemical and immunocytochemical analysis in murine modelof ovalbumin-induced asthma.Result: Murine model of asthma revealed the typical pathophysiological features ofincreased number of inflammatory cells and increased VEGF expression and protein levels.Significant decreases in the accumulation of inflammatory cells and the expression of VEGFin administration of doxycycline were observed. Conclusion: The doxycycline inhibit accumulation of inflammatory cell through downregulation of VEGF. |
