Objective: To evaluate the correlation between compensated cirrhosisand the peak enhancement and time to peak enhancement of main trunk of portal vein (MTPV) by single-level dynamic CT.Materials and Methods: 18 normal individuals ., 15 patients withcompensated hepatic cirrhosis and 17 patients with decompensated hepatic cirrhosis were involved in this study . Single-level dynamic CT scanning was performed at the level of slightly below the first liver hilus, using Asteion MSCT and starting at 25s after bolus injection of nonionic contrast (dose 1. 5ml/Kg , injection rate 3ml/s) . The scanning was repeated every 5s to 94s. Using ROI , CT value of portal vein and liver were measured at identical slice .The density differences between the portal vein and liver were calculated and the time-density curves were drawn. Results: 1. The average peak enhancement of MTPV and the hepaticparenchyma (HP) in normal groups were 208.8 + 30 Hu and 111.8+18 Hu, respectively. The time to peak enhancement of MTPV and HP in normal groups were 42 5s and 55 6s, respectively. 2. The average peak enhancement of MTPV and HP in compensated hepatic cirrhosis groups were 187. 5 26Hu and 104. 2 17Hu, respectively. The time to peak enhancement of MTPV and HP in compensated hepatic cirrhosis groups were 50 8s and 62 7s, respectively. 3 . The average peak enhancement of MTPV and HP indecorapensated hepatic cirrhosis groups were 164. 7 + 32 Hu and 98. 3 + 27 Hu, respectively. The time to peak enhancement of MTPV and HP in decompensated hepatic cirrhosis groups were 61 9s and 70 5s, respectively. 4. According to normal groups and compensated hepatic cirrhosis groups, the peak enhancement and time to peak enhancement of MTPV have significant difference. (P<0.05)Conclusion: The peak enhancement and time to peak enhancement of MTPVhave better clinical value. It can provide the vital information of clinic al diagnosis for compensated hepatic cirrhosis.
