In recent years, with the development of economy and the reason of military, more and more people will come to west plateau in our homeland. Hypoxia is a state of oxygen deficiency in the body which is sufficient to cause an impairment of function. Hypoxia is caused by the reduction in partial pressure of oxygen, inadequate oxygen transport, or the inability of the tissues to use oxygen. Hypoxia may be caused by a high altitude exposure, it may cause a variety of psychological and neurological abnormalities. So many years we look for anti-hypoxia medicine. Many researchs indicate that many drugs, such as acetazolamide, dexamethasone, nimodipine and so on, have been used to try to prevent or alleviate symptoms of the mountain sickness. But these drugs have more side effect, cann't used in many environment. Many traditional Chinese medicines, such as ginseng, rhodlola eoccinea and gingko, have the anti-hypoxia effect. But all of them are expensive and rare, also cann't used in a large area.Purslane Herb can be seen in most area of the world, is one of most common traditional Chinese medicine. Purslane Herb can clear away heat to expel toxic substances, cools the blood, arrests dysentery, promotes urination, reduces dampness, increases bowel movement, improves eye-sight. Modern medicine research indicate that Purslane Herb have effects of bactericidal action, regulating serum lipids and anti- aging. In our research we first discover that Purslane Herb have the anti-hypoxia effect. It can improve energy metabolism of hypoxia mice, maintain function of mitochondrial respiratory function of hypoxia mice and protect the damage of cardiac myocytes and brain celles of hypoxia mice. All research can help to develop the utilization of Purslane Herb and prevent and cure the disease of hypoxia.Part 1: The anti-hypoxia effect of Purslane Herb on anoxia mice. Objective: To investigate the effects of Purslane Herb aquenous on the mice in hypoxia.Method: Use the normobaric hypoxia methods and potassium cyanide intoxicant hypoxia, compare with distilled water group and total saponins of panax ginseng group, observing the anti-hypoxia effect of Purslane Herb, Purslane Herb ethanol extracts, Purslane Herb aquenous extracts and Purslane Herb ethoxyethane extracts, to search oneextracts with best anti-hypoxia effect, then divide this extracts into three concentration (0.5g/ml, Ig/ml and 2g/ml), also use the normobaric hypoxia methods, find the best concentration of anti-hypoxia effect. Results: (1)The survival time of the mice in the hypoxia of Purslane Herb group were longer than that in the control group by 25.4%(P<0.05). Compare with TSPG group, The survival time haven't the statistics significance(P>0.05). (2)The survival time of hypoxia mice of Purslane Herb ethanol extracts, Purslane Herb aquenous extracts and Purslane Herb ethoxyethane extracts all were longer than that in the control group, but only Purslane Herb aquenous extracts have the statistics significance (P0.01). (3)Three concentration (0.5g/ml, Ig/ml and 2g/ml) of Purslane Herb aquenous extracts all have anti-hypoxia effect, but Purslane Herb aquenous extracts of Ig/ml concentration significantly prolonged the survival time in mice exposed to hypoxia(P0.01). (4)the survival time of intoxicant mice of potassium cyanide were longer than that in the control group by 25.4%(P<0.05).Conclusion: Purslane Herb ethanol extracts have the anti-hypoxia effect, the best concentration of Purslane Herb ethanol extracts is Ig/ml.Part 2 Mechanisms for anti-hypoxia effect of Purslane Herb on hypoxia mice. Objective: To explore the mechanisms for anti-hypoxia effect of Purslane Herb on hypoxia mice.Method: BALA/c mice were randomly divided into 4 groups. Group A (normal control), group B, group C and group D (hypoxia control). Group A and group D were fed with distilled water, group B were fed with Purslane Herb aquenous extracts(Ig/ml), group C were fed with total saponins of panax ginseng(15mg/ml). Biochemical methods were employed to determine the activities of Phosp...
