Objective: This article focuses on the effects of taurine on euthyroid and hyperthyroid guinea-pig sinoatrial node cell in heart. Methods: The experiment were studied with microelectrode technique to investigate the changes of action potential, which include maximal diastolic potential (MDP),maximum upstroke velocity (Vmax), action potential amplitude (APA), action potential duration at 50%> 90% repolarization (APD50, APD90), spontaneous depolarization rate (SDR), and so on. Results: (1) Taurine significantly shortened APD50, APD90 of euthyroid guinea-pig sinoatrial node cell in heart; (2) Taurine significantly prolonged APD50, APD90 of action potential of hyperthyroid guinea-pig sinoatrial node cell in heart; (3) Taurine significantly depressed the Vmax and SDR of action potential of sinoatrial node cell in heart. Conclusions: all the results may demonstrate that taurine improves the Ca2+ channels of euthyroid sinoatrial node cell and inhibits the Ca2+ channels of hyperthyroid sinoatrial node cell. Forthermore, taurine improves the K+ channels of guinea-pig sinoatrial cell in heart.
