The combination of radiotherapy and high-dose chemotherapy with APBSCT is a new treatment for malignant heamathological disease and a part of solid tumor. In the world, about 10 thousand cancer patients per year were treated with APBSCT. All kinds of random clinical trials have proved that high-dose chemotherapy combined with APBSCT can obviously extend the disease free survival(DFS) of the patients with malignant blood system disease, including recurred NHL, acute leukemia and multiple myeloma (MM). The same study of the solid tumor has also reported excited results.However, there are also parts of patients who appeared recurrence and metastasis after APBSCT. Many clinical researches considered that the long-term inhibition of immunity function after APBSCT is one of the important causations. The state of immunity function after APBSCT and mmunotherapy are important to clear away remained tumor cells in the body and the anti-infection effect after APBSCT. Clinical studies have recovered that the immunity function of cancer patients after APBSCT can palsy slow even to 1 year. Unfortunately the clinical workers usually only pay attention to the recovery of granulocytes and platelets as the target to hematopoiesis recovery, and ignore the recovery of immunity function. Actually, the recovery of immunity system expecially immunity- cell function is very slow, normal cyto-immunity constitution maybe last 12 months, even if more longer. Because of the recovery of immunity function after APBSCT is osculated to the recurrence after APBSCT, the immunity function constitution and immunotherapy have been one hotspot of researches in APBSCT.30 patients after APBSCT were prompted to be observed in our retrospective review. The patients were randomise divided into 4 groups: 7 patients were subcutaneous injected with IL-2. 8 patients were treated by Rg3 capsule orally. 8 patients were treated with the combination of Rg3 and IL-2. 7 patients were injected with normal saline(contral group). Each group were treated 15 days and then rested 15 days on each month. There are total 3 months as a course. All the patients were observed in functional recovery of T lymphocyte inclluding the subtype volume by flow cytometer.The results of the influence of Rg3 to cyto-immunity is: the Rg3 group were no difference with IL-2 group. The combined group showed a good synergistic immune improvement, and much better than other test groups and NS group on immunological enhancement.So we can conclude that the combined use of traditional Chinese medicine ginsenoside Rg3 and biological response modifier(BRM) can improve greatly the immunological reconstitution of cancer patients who receiving high-dose radio-chemotherapy supported by APBSCT. and enhanced greatly the immunological function. The effect of combined therapy is better than IL-2 or Rg3 sole treatment.
