The medical apparatus developed in this paper is a new type stethoscope, which features an additional ECG monitoring function. This machine is designed to an embedded system by using the advanced MCU chip -MSP430 as key control processor, and can achieve the performance of sampling, processing and displaying ECG signal which was derived from simulated chest lead, so that the clinician can inspect the real time ECG waveform on an LCD screen assembled at the machine' s rear panel while listening to chest voice.The resolution of this apparatus is a combination of traditional stethoscope and ECG machine functions, in this means there developed an enhanced stethoscope combined with ECG signal detecting capability. We believe that it is more useful and convenient for clinical utility.We have made great efforts to optimize performance of this machine such as portable design and low power consumption. Designs of the whole system including hardware and software comply with above principles. For example, from CPU selection to amplifier and filter circuit solution as well as LCD and power control mode, we have all made careful consideration to achieve these ideas. We also studied how to optimize the software, paid more attention to digital filter, mode selection, heart rate calculation and so on.This sample model of this apparatus have been put into application in General hospital of ChengDu military and proved to be validity.
