This study was under the guidance of traditional Chinese medical theory, to explore the characteristics of traditional Chinese medical(TCM syndrome) syndrome. Though the study, we hope to hold the basic rules of CAAN, to discuss the causes and pathogenesis of CAAN, then to guide our clinical therapy. The thesis summarizes including two parts, review and clinical study on the TCM syndrome. The review part includes AAN concept, history, etiology, pathogenesis, clinical characters, types, diagnosis and treatment of AAN. It also includes the toxicity of aristolochic acid (AA), the traditional Chinese herbs containing AA, the influence on the renal toxicity of using Chinese herbs cooperatively. At the last part of the review, we remarked modern study and discussed its outlook. In the clinical study part, we observed 44 CAAN patients. We graded them according to various degrees of their symptoms, based the diagnostic standard of the chronic renal failure . We evaluated the arisen rates of every symptom and every type according to the different stages of Ccr. and compared them. Results: With the development of the disease, the symptoms became more severely. In general chronic renal failure(CRF), the tip is spleen and kidney qi deficiency, the root is blood stasis and dampness. These characters still exist in CAAN. Differently, yang deficiency and blood stasis symptoms appeared early and severely. Yang deficiency and blood stasis are very important in CAAN.Though the study, we know there are same and different characters in the traditional Chinese medical syndrome of CAAN. We investigated its cause, pathogenesis and treatment. Then we should make a point of its different characters, choose corresponding methods of treatment to prevent and treat CAAN effectively.
