Objective: To study the use of erythropoietin receptor (EPOR) in anemia of chronic renal failure. Methods: A total of 57 patients were enrolled in this study. The expressions of EPOR on peripheral blood mononuclear cells(PBMCs) were measured by flow cytometry in 30 patients with chronic renal failure(CRF) , 12 dialysis patients ,15 control patients (with normal renal function and without anemia) .Results: The expressions of EPOR on PBMCs in patients with severe renal anemic ( 7.06 5.48 ) % were increased significantly compared with that in middle or slight anemic patients (3.51 1.73) %. The expression of EPOR on PBMCs in chronic renal insufficiency (CRI) (5.36 3.15) % was higher than control group (2.12 1.75) %. The expression of EPOR on PBMCs in uremic patients with dialysis (0.92 1.23) % was decreased significantly compared with that in uremic patients without dialysis (3.48 2.79) %. The expression of EPOR on PBMCs in dialysis patients with rHuEpo (2.01 1.80) % was increased compared with that in dialysis patients without rHuEpo (0.38 0.23) % .The serum creatinine level was relative to the level of Hb or HCT in CRF.Conclusion: The expressions of EPOR on PBMCs in patients with severe renal anemia were high unusually. The expression of EPOR on PBMCs in CRI was abnormal. EPOR may be related to renal anemia associated with CRF.
