Objective: To study the immunomodulation of alliin or alliinase or alliin+alliinase from garlic in the immunosuppressed mice. Methods: the immunodepressed mice were induced by cyclophosphamide (Cp) .In order to detect the immunomodulatory effects of alliin or alliinase or alliin + alliinase from garlic, the immune organ weights and the phagocytosis ability of Macrophage ,serum hemolysin concentration 50%,the lymphocyte transformation (MTT method),the level of IL-2 and TNF-αin serum ,the IL-2mRNA expression of splenic cell were tested. Results: the results showed that alliin+alliinase at the middle and high dose can cause a significant increase of the phagocytic rate (p<0.05) , the proliferation of splenocytees(p<0.05), the serum hemolysin concentration 50%(p<0.05), and the expression of IL-2mRNA; alliin+alliinase at the high dose can increase the level of IL-2. Alliin+alliinase had no effect on the immune organ weights. At the same time, the proliferation of splenocytees to ConA and LPS, the hemolytic dose50 and the phagocytosis of macrophage in the abdominal cavity were markely increased in mice of immunosuppression treated with alliin. Conclution: these results show that alliin+alliinase can significantly enhance the nonspecific,cell-mediated and humoral immunological function in immunodepressed mice, alliin partly protected the immunity of mice from inhibitory effects induced by Cp.Alliinase had no effect.
