ObjectThe main goal of this, study was to use the finite element method to simulate the effect of horizontal alveolar loss on the behavior of orthodontic tipping movement . Combining spiral CT ( SCT) scanning technology, digital image transfer and transcription, with three - dimensional finite element method (3-D FEM) , six 3 - dimensional the maxillary central incisor models were formulated ,which consist of the tooth, periodontal membrane, alveolar bone. The analysis of stress induced in the periodontal ligament and the initial movement of the maxillary central incisor were carried out under different alveolar loss conditions. The present study can provide insight when dealing with patients with alveolar bone loss.Materials and MethodsCombining spiral CT( SCT) scanning technology, digital image transfer and transcription, the initial 3-D data of the maxillary central incisor was obtained. With three - dimensional finite element method (3-D FEM) and the software AUTOCAD2004,a satisfactory 3 - D FE model of the maxillary central incisor with biomechanical property was constructed, The constructed model comprising the tooth, periodontal ligament, alveolar bone had good morphology. The elements and nodes of the model are 40703 and 59123. The material behavior in-...
