| Objective :To study the effect of Tranilast on the proliferation and migration of rabbit lens epithelial cells(RLECs) in vitro and to evaluate the drugs used for posterior capsular opacification (PCO). Methods : RLECs were cultured in vitro first and then different concentrations of Tranilast was added to the epithelial cell of second and third passage respectively in this study .The effects of Tranilast on the proliferation of RLECs in vitro were examined by MTT colorimetry and the cell count ,and migration was evaluated by crutch method . Results: 1.Treated with tranilast varying from 12.5mg/L to 100.0 mg/L concentration ,the proliferation of RLECs declined in a dose and tine dependent manner. 2.The migration of RLECs decreased from 47.033 ± 1.587 to 10.783 ± 1.281 and 3.350 ±0.742 cells /per field (P <0.01 ) at 50.0mg/L and 100.0mg/L respectively. Conclusion : 1.Tranilast inhibited the proliferation as well as migration of RLECs in vitro .2.Tranilast may become an effective drug to prevent PCO . |
