Background: autoimmune rheumatic disease is one kind of diseases belonging to diffuse connective tissue disease. The key step of the pathological characterization is that leukocytes infiltrate through endotheliocyte into the inflammary sites mediated by the soluble adhesion molecules(sAM).Therefore, the association between sAM and the occurrence of autoimmune rheumatic disease has been paid close attation to.Objective: To evaluated the sera level of soluble intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (sICAM-1) and soluble E-selectin (sE-selectin) in patients with autoimmune rheumatic disease and reveal the correlation between the sera level of sAM and clinical findings. Methods: 56 cases of autoimmune rheumatic diseases and 20 healthy controls were involved in this investigation. The patients were divided into three groups: groups 1: .systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), 30 cases (20 active and 10 mild SLE; 2 male, 28 female; median age 34 years, range28-70years); group 2 : rheumatoid arthritis (RA),12 cases (2 male.10 female; median age 43 years, range24-65 years), group 3: poliomyelitis (PM) or dermatomyositis (DM), 14 cases (14 female; median age 38years, range34-40years). There were 2 male, 18 female ( range25-50 years, median age 35years )in the healthy controls. Sera were prepared from peripheral blood of the patients as well as the controls. Then, the concentrations of sICAM-1 and sE-selectin in the sera were measured by the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Moreover, the rheumatoid factor (RF) in the RA group, the anti-double stranded DNA antibody (dsDNA) in the SLE group and creatine kinase (CK) in the PM/DM group were also inspected respectively. After that , the correlation of the concentrations of sAM and clinical data as well as other laboratory indexes (RF, CK, anti-dsDNA) were analyzed.
