Low intensity laser therapy (LILT) has been promoted since the late 1960s as a new, safe and effective treatment for a multitude of neurological, musculoskeletal, and soft tissue conditions. Although the acceptance of the concept is limited, and the effectiveness is arguable, the most convincing evidence for low intensity laser effects has been found at the cellular level. At the cellular level, the biomodulation effects of high coherent light, such as He-Ne laser irradiation, has no significant difference with the ones of non-coherent light, such as the light from light emitting diode (LED) and so on, so that both of them were called photobiomodulation. Photobiomodulation is a safe modality for clinical use. Liu TCY et al have put forward the biological information model of photobiomodulation (BIMP). In this paper, the photobiomodulation on PMN respiration burst and A6 induced PC12 apoptosis will be preliminarily studied in vitro, respectively, to test BIMP and develop its clinic applications.Neutrophils (PMNs) are the first line of host defense against invading microorganisms. Respiratory burst, production of reactive oxygen intermediates (ROI) by PMN NADPH oxidase, is a major mechanism of bacterial killing and, in pathologic circumstance, tissue damage. Photobiomodulation on the respiratory burst of human, rice or bovine PMNs has been studied, respectively. The photobiomodulation on the respiratory burst of porcine PMNs will be studied in this paper. It was found that He-Ne laser irradiation at 500J/m2 can induce the respiration burst of porcine PMNs, and LED irradiation (X=640±15nm) at the dose lower than 150 J/m2 can inhibit the respiration burst of porcine PMNs, which support BIMP so that the respiration burst of porcine PMNs can be used to study signal transduction pathway mediated photobiomodulation as BIMP suggested. Many studies revealed that too much production of 6-amyloid (AB) and its consequent induction of neuron apoptosis might be one kind of the potential nosogenesis of the Alzheimer's disease (AD) so that A6 25-53 induced apoptosis of differentiated PC12 cells was always used to be one of the cellular models of AD. The photobiomodulation on the cellular model will be studied in this paper. It wasfound that the LED irradiation (?L=640±15nm), when utilized at power of 0.9W/m2 and 60 minutes has significantly diminished A6 induced apoptosis of PC12 cells, which support BIMP so that BIMP can be used to provide a foundation for LEDs to be developed to treat AD.
