Objective: By referring to the traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), this paper attempts to, from the aspects of theory, clinic and experiments, systematically analyze and discuss the pathogenesis and treatment of the incurable disease "hydrocephalus", in order to seek an efficient and clinical-applied prescriptive drug. Methods: Studies show that although the pathogenesis of hydrocephalus is complicated, it is mainly caused by the "stagnated blood and obstructed cerebral channel, and retained water". So, in the therapeutic principle of "dispelling blood stasis, dredging the channel, removing the obstructions in the cerebral channel, and clearing the retained water", we plan to treat the hydrocephalus with NaoKangLing Capsule, and have observed 60 patients with the western general treatment as the control group. Results: The effective rate of treatment group is 91.67%, comparing to 68.33% of the control group. Experiments show that when NaoKangNing Capsule is used in the fundamental research, it can increase the times of wild activity of mice, and can improve the response of those mice with defective memory. It also can significantly prolong the latent period of the mice with paroxysmal convulsion, and can reduce the quantity of animals with convulsion. Besides, it can decrease the intracranial pressure of rabbits, and increase the urine of rats. And, it tends to inhibit the activity of carbonic anhydrase in the brain tissue of rats, and reduce the permeability of blood capillaries. The acute toxicity experiments show that NaoKangNing Capsule is safe in the administration scope. Conclusions: In the aspects of syndrome efficiency and symptoms improvement, the treatment group is better than the control group.
